"My favorite moment? Walking into a room with my client. While I listen carefully to their vision and wishes, I can't help noticing elements like the direction and intensity of the light and feel where the natural vibe of the room takes me. There is a sense of conviviality, cocooning even, to every space. That's when colors, shapes, and textures unfold before my eyes, sometimes down to important details like the art on the walls. It's a thrill –I have no other word for it– I love to share with my clients."

Dawnette's early passion for Interior Design took her to the Art Institute of York, Pennsylvania, where she received her professional degree. Since then, she has worked on high-end residential and commercial projects ranging from 1200 to 15,000 square feet. It's all in the process, the vision, and fulfilling my clients' deepest desires. Even, and most specifically, the ones they struggle to formulate."

Before starting Whitcomb Hughes Design and Build with Ray, she had the pleasure of working with top LA designer Mark Cutler and Pasadena-based contractor David Reaume. These two partnerships strengthened her already solid construction and design background.

She has a passion for great design with a vision for a classic, functional and personal style. A name? "Transitional. It's being fluctuant and incorporate different style and influences in my work. Beauty, as we understand it, is refined with luxurious mixtures of colors, textures, and furnishings that reflect the client's unique characteristics of design and taste." A style that was the highlight of the Pasadena showcase of the arts nine years in a row.

About Dawnette

While graduating from the institutionally and artistically avant-garde Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and majoring in Film and Cinema at USC, Ray had one objective in mind: being a Set Designer and working his way up to Art Director in the film and television industry. Two decades later, he had successfully transitioned from both these roles to a Production Designer for television commercials.

By 2004, willing to make a more substantial impact in people's life, Ray took his design and construction managing skills to the residential and commercial building trade.

At that point, Dawnette, an already successful Interior Designer, regularly brought him in on projects where his architectural background and expertise were decisive. Ultimately, they formed Whitcomb Hughes Design & Build, focusing primarily on residential projects.

"Whitcomb Hughes Design and Build" participated in one of the country's oldest, largest, and most successful showcases: the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

While enjoying the partnership, Ray felt the urge to contribute to the community. That calling materialized in the Spring of 2008 with a Consulting Construction Manager position at Abode Communities until he became Abode's interim Director of Facilities. A position confirmed seven months later.

A creative at heart, Ray thrives on turning a house into a home and a client into a friend. No wonder he is currently refocusing on Whitcomb Hughes Design and Build.
